Dr Julie is a specialist in oral surgery which she provides under local anaesthesia with or without intravenous (IV), inhalational sedation (AKA laughing gas) or oral sedation in dental practice. She has been carrying out procedures such as removal of wisdom teeth and exposure of buried teeth since 1997 after graduating from Leeds Dental Hospital in 1995. She has been providing sedation for the management anxious patients or those undergoing more complex surgical procedures for over 20 years!
Dr Julie has been working as an academic for most of her career having a particular interest in education and training and has trained members of the dental team from undergraduate dentist trainees, dental nurse trainees through to postgraduate students, qualified dentists, and specialist trainees.
Dr Julie has a PhD from the University of Leeds and maintains a keen interest in research supervising students at PhD, Doctorate, and Masters levels. She has presented her research nationally and internationally and has been an invited speaker in various settings including Mosul Dental School (Iraq), the International Orthodontic Congress (London), British Dental Association meetings, and the British Dental Students Association Conference.
Dr Julie is passionate about oral surgery as a specialty and works hard with the British Association of Oral Surgeons, being the current President-Elect, ‘promoting excellence in Oral Surgery through education, research, and training for better patient care.
Dr Julie tries her best to give treatment in the most comfortable way possible and has had many years to practice her techniques.
Dr Julie lives in Edinburgh and is married with 2 children who are 2 and 10 years old and has 2 dogs.
Outside of dentistry Julie loves walking, jogging (slowly), and cycling in the Pentland Hills not far from her home
